This is an original 1962 Willie Mays bobblehead (also referred to as “nodder”). These early Japanese-made nodders have become iconic baseball collectibles, especially those featuring Hall of Fame legends like Willie Mays.
On the underside, there’s a handwritten note referencing the Giants vs. Cardinals game on August 17, 1966. That date holds real historical weight—Mays hit his 535th career home run in the 4th inning, passing Jimmie Foxx to take sole possession of second place all-time, behind only Babe Ruth at the time.
The bobblehead is in fair overall condition, showing age-appropriate wear with discoloration, paint loss, and scuffing throughout. At some point, the neck was broken and carefully reglued to the body; the repair is stable, and the head feels firmly attached without looseness. There are noticeable surface marks and general wear, particularly on the cap, face, and uniform, all consistent with its vintage nature.
